Great news for Days of Our Lives fans! NBC has renewed the beloved soap opera for a 55th season! The announcement ensures DAYS will remain on the air at least through September 2020.

“It’s a great day in Salem! The sands in the hourglass will continue to flow for yet another year,” Executive Producer Ken Corday said in a statement.

“We’re grateful to NBC and Sony [Pictures Television] for their continued support of the show and, of course, to our dedicated and passionate fans, we owe it all to you. Thank you for taking us through our 55th season. We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store.”

“With writing that manages to weave together Salem’s iconic characters with current realities, Ken Corday and his team have ushered the show’s legacy in a new era that resonates with both longtime and new viewers,” said Bruce Evans, Executive vice president of Current Programming, NBC Entertainment.

“The actors and crew have such a tremendous respect for DAYS and what it means to fans,” Evans adds. “We believe that level of commitment shows through and touches our audience year after year.”

DAYS’ 53rd season, which ran from September 2017 to September 2018 saw a 4% increase in total viewers (2.55 million vs. 2.45 million in live + 7 per Nielsen Media Research) vs. the previous season.

Current head writer Ron Carlivati’s scripts began airing in July 2017 and the show’s been delivering a whirlwind ride to its viewers ever since! The scribe has delved into DAYS’ rich history to help tell the show’s current stories.

During his tenure in Salem, viewers have seen the returns of Will Horton (Chandler Massey), Kristen DiMera/Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk), Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel), and Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer), among others.

DAYS swept at the Daytime Emmys last year, taking home statuettes for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series, and Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series.

The gold also went to James Reynolds (Abe) for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series and Greg Vaughan (Eric) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

The show has a total of 57 Emmy Awards and has won multiple People’s Choice Awards, GLAAD Media Awards, and Prism Awards.

Last fall, DAYS launched an app for the show, which allows fans to have a more direct connection to their favorite soap!
