The Best and Wildest Soap Moments of 2017

Daytime 2017 will go down as one of the best — and wildest.

There were stunning returns, exits, hookups, and heartbreaking performances that left viewers sobbing. Here’s a look back at five top moments of the year.

1. Most Outrageous Plot: Will Is Alive
Days of Our Lives pushed the envelope resurrecting Will, who’d been violently strangled by The Necktie Killer.

Although he actually did die, Susan (Eileen Davidson) had Dr. Rolf (Will Utay) revive him and brainwash him into believing he was her son, EJ, because she blamed Sami (Alison Sweeney) for EJ’s death. Albeit convoluted and crazy, it worked. And it brought fan favorite Chandler Massey back as Will, who can’t remember any of his past.

2. Best Storyline: Steve Burton’s Return as Jason Morgan
General Hospital found itself with an embarrassment of Jasons, when Steve Burton opted to reclaim the role he’d played from 1991 to 2012, but had been aptly portrayed by Billy Miller since 2014.

So the show created a twisted tale of twin brothers and memory mapping that threw half the town into a tailspin. Although Miller’s Drew is the odd man out, he’s living Jason’s life in Jason’s home with Jason’s wife Sam (Kelly Monaco), while Burton’s Jason has had to settle for reuniting with Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright).

3. Most Shocking Exit: Chloe and Kevin
After admitting she orchestrated Adam’s death in an explosion on The Young and the Restless, Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) skipped town on her wedding day to avoid the repercussions. Then, she faked her own death, when Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) tracked her down.

In the end, Chloe reunited with Kevin (Greg Rikaart) and they ran off with their daughter, Bella — but it’s left Genoa City without its most complicated and beguiling vixen.

4. Most Controversial Coupling: Bill and Steffy
In the incestuous world of daytime, it’s commonplace for siblings and other relatives to have a fling with or even marry the same person.

But The Bold and the Beautiful upped the controversial coupling ante, when Steffy (Jacqueline McInnes Wood), who was once wed to Wyatt (Darin Brooks) and is now married to his brother, Liam (Scott Clifton), had a one-night-stand with their father, Bill (Don Diamont). Now she’s pregnant and has no clue who’s the daddy.

5. Most Heartbreaking Performance: Hudson West
Was there a dry eye in the house when Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Drew (Billy Miller) told Jake (Hudson West) that his “dad Jason” was actually his uncle? The kid quivered and his eyes filled with tears as he bemoaned that he didn’t need another father. He already had one he deeply loved.

If ever there was an Emmy-bound performance, it’s this one.
