In the latest episode of 9-1-1, Abigail Spencer perfectly portrayed a psychotic killer who wanted to kill Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character. Behind the scenes, these ladies are the best of friends. The All My Children alum admitted that she was intimidated about joining the cast, even if it was for a short time.
The One Thing That Made Her Nervous
Spencer gave fans a spooky glimpse into Detective Amber Braeburn’s true identity. She was revealed to be a serial killer who was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder. Amber wasn’t happy when Maddie (Hewitt) meddled with her decades-long case involving a serial killer who died by suicide. She entered Maddie’s home, abducted her, and kept her locked away.
Meanwhile, Maddie’s husband, Chim (Kenneth Choi), desperately searched for her. He assumed his wife left him again. Thankfully, Athena Grant (Angela Bassett) was on the case. Fans watched in horror as Amber slashed Maddie’s throat. Chim was already on the scene. He was close to being shot to death by Amber. Athena saved his life by shooting Amber dead. In an exclusive interview with HELLO! Magazine, Spencer shared her experience filming with the tight-knit cast.
Spencer loved having the chance to guest star in the primetime drama. She also enjoyed that she had to “get a little nervous” about working with the cast “because it means I still care.” The cast was nothing but welcoming to her. “They were amazing to me,” Spencer said.

Gushes Over Good Friend
Also, in the interview, Spencer shared her real thoughts about Hewitt. The two had to get into some intense fight scenes on Thursday’s episode. But their relationship is far from tense. The former soap star couldn’t help but gush over the Ghost Whisperer alum. “She’s been entertaining the world her whole life, and she’s a wonderful actress, and so committed to her character and really understands how this all works,” Spencer said.
Spencer and Hewitt are good friends who go back “20 plus years.” In addition, Spencer and Bassett starred in the movie This Means War. Spencer had to pay her respects to the rest of the cast. She added that 9-1-1 is “Angela’s show, Peter’s show, Kenny’s show, and I know what it’s like to have my show, and so when I come on, I’m there to support and make their lives easy, hopefully, and give them a break.”
Both the cast and crew were welcoming and safe. Spencer felt comfortable enough to tap into her inner darkness. This was also her first time appearing on a Ryan Murphy show, which made her excited about the role. Spencer teased that “this episode is where it literally turns into a horror film.” However, she also wanted to handle Amber’s storyline in a sensitive manner.
“Multiple personality disorder is a very real disorder, and I’m not excusing any of the deeds that were done by any of these characters, but that’s my job, to bring understanding to that — and we only had 47 minutes to do it,” Spencer noted.
