By all standards, soaps or reality, Trina Robinson is an amazing young woman. She’s smart, loyal, and adorable. So why does she always seem to end up with the short end of the General Hospital stick? Whether it’s losing out on Spencer Cassadine or having her best friends shrug off her being sick so they can have their first time in the room next to her, life hasn’t been very fair to this remarkable young woman.
General Hospital: Poor Trina
It’s a mystery why Trina doesn’t get a fair shake. This is a special young woman who deserves to be driving story in Port Charles — not to be some sad sack sidekick to the other teens. She has a family — a messy one at that! She has gorgeous yet complicated Dr. Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) as her mother, and even more complicated and damaged former lawman Marcus Taggert (Réal Andrews) as her legal father, and the eventual (probable) mess of Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) maybe being her bio dad. This is good soapy stuff!
Trina radiates goodness — and yet, who is her biggest champion? The deliciously bad Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West), who has become her mentor and perhaps is often learning more from the young woman rather than the other way around. Trina took the initiative to work at her Jerome Gallery and even spearheaded a special exhibit!
Bully Target
Yet, she was the target of crush Spencer’s (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) mean girl girlfriend, Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl), who is so jealous of their connection, she humiliated and drugged poor Trina on General Hospital. While Trina’s BFF, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), told off Esme for her horrible ways, she still took her at her word that Trina was “fine” when she ran off crying and feeling unsteady for drinking the “hot toddy” Esme prepared…and drugged.
In her state, Trina spilled about her one-time feelings for Joss’s guy, Cameron Webber (William Lipton), leaving both wondering if their getting together really did upset Trina as she said. What was their conclusion? Who cares, leave her alone in her bedroom (assuming Esme was telling the truth that she was fine?!?), and have their first sexual encounter in the next room. WHAT?!?!
Trina deserves better treatment from everyone. If the story was that you shouldn’t leave your BFF to possibly choke on her vomit, that would have been one thing. But, the General Hospital writers just had her perky and fine the next day. No harm, no foul. However, there was harm. You don’t break the girl code and do something like that. It sent a bad message. Trina — and GH viewers — deserved better.
