Veteran soap star A Martinez — known for his time on One Life to Live as Ray Montez, Roy DiLucca on General Hospital, Dr. Ramon Montgomery on The Bold and the Beautiful, and Eduardo Hernandez on Days of our Lives — recently shared some lovely praise for former OLTL star Nathan Fillion. Martinez remembered their time together as he recalled a special primetime project they worked on together.
A Martinez Praises Nathan Fillion
Martinez shared a screenshot of himself in an episode of Castle on Instagram. In the show, the soap vet portrayed retired, heart-diseased former kingpin César Calderón. The actor credited his role on the primetime series to Fillion, whom he called “one of the all-time great hosts among actors.” Fillion brought Castle’s Richard Castle to life on the series for the entirety of the show’s run from 2009 to 2016.
Longtime soap fans may remember Martinez portrayed Ray Montez in 2008 and 2009 on One Life to Live. Meanwhile, Fillion’s on-screen alter ego on OLTL was Joey Buchanan, whom he played from 1994 to 2007. So although the actors didn’t overlap during their time on the ABC daytime drama, they had that shared soap opera history before working together on Castle.
A Martinez shared the shot to mark his recent interview on Steve Owens’ School of Hollywood podcast. The actor revealed that the short talk covered ground he hadn’t covered in past interviews.
According to Martinez, the podcast, which is 21 minutes long, is “also of interest to anyone from anywhere who wonders about the ins and outs of an acting career.” You can check out his caption in the post below.
A Storied Soap History
A Martinez has a long and storied history in soap operas. Fans probably remember him for the Daytime Emmy he won in 1990 playing Cruz Castillo on Santa Barbara, a role he embodied from 1984 to 1992. He also brought Roy DiLucca to life on General Hospital during 2000-2002, and he played Dr. Ramon Montgomery from 2011 to 2012 on The Bold and the Beautiful.
Days of our Lives fans also enjoyed him as Eduardo Hernandez on and off from 2015 to 2020. For six years (2014 to 2020), Martinez also embodied Nardo Ramos on The Bay.
