After Marco’s murder on General Hospital, Lucas didn’t hesitate. He made a decision to avenge his boyfriend and stuck to it. He would take Cullum and Sidwell down, no matter what it cost him. It’s been a solitary path so far, but that changed recently when he let Britt in on the plan. She didn’t exactly support it, telling him he was playing with fire. That shift wasn’t random. Van Hansis broke down why Lucas turned to Britt instead of Carly, and it comes down to something deeper than strategy.

Key Takeaways

  • Lucas and Britt’s relationship is growing without becoming soft or overly emotional.
  • Vulnerability begins to develop between them due to shared loss.
  • Lucas connects with Britt because she understands what he is going through.
  • Lucas keeps Carly in the dark because he knows she would disapprove.

It Starts With Shared Loss, Not Trust

Hansis spoke to Soap Opera Digest about the shift, pointing to what’s growing between Lucas and Britt (Kelly Thiebaud). “What I really like about the Britt and Lucas relationship is that even though they are getting closer and closer, it’s not saccharine,” he said. There’s no sudden warmth or easy connection. It’s rough around the edges, and it stays that way.

“There’s a snark to both of them… and they express it by jabbing at each other,” Hansis explained. That dynamic doesn’t go away. It just changes shape. The edge is still there, but something else starts to slip in underneath it.

That’s where the vulnerability comes in. Hansis said “you will start to see more vulnerability between the two of them,” even if it makes them uncomfortable. They don’t trust each other because it’s easy. They trust each other because they’re dealing with the same kind of loss at the same time.

Carly Is Different, And That’s the Problem

That same logic doesn’t apply to Carly. Hansis explained that Lucas has always seen her differently. “He can be very critical of her, but he also very much puts her on a pedestal,” he said. That changes how Lucas acts around her, especially now.

Lucas cares what Carly thinks more than anyone else. He knows she wouldn’t approve of what he’s doing. So instead of dealing with that, he keeps her in the dark. And the real kicker: he can judge other people all day, but he doesn’t handle it well when someone judges him back.

He compared it to a familiar instinct. “When you’re a teenager, and you’re doing bad things, you don’t want your parents to know about it,” Hansis said. Carly isn’t his mother, but she fills that role in a way that matters. That’s why Lucas keeps her out of it. Britt doesn’t ask him to be better, but Carly would, and right now, that’s exactly what Lucas is avoiding.
