With General Hospital producing an episode dedicated to celebrating Alexis – and Nancy Lee Grahn’s – twenty-five years in Port Charles, we asked viewers to name their favorite moment with the romantically challenged legal eagle. Here’s how you answered:
The vast number of the votes, 82%, went to Alexis’ friendship with Diane (Carolyn Hennesy). The fact is Alexis can’t take care of herself, her record with her daughters is spotty, and her record with men is dismal.
Diane is the most successful relationship in her life, and it’s nice to see that given her front-burner status. Soaps are a genre that are deeply focused on romance, so it’s refreshing to see other types of love stories given their due.
Much further down the list, with 8% of the audience, is any interaction Alexis ever had with Luke (Anthony Geary). Geary is known to toss his script and improvise dialogue on the spot, and Grahn seemed to get a kick out of it, the way her character got a kick out of his.
Alexis takes everything too seriously, and Luke doesn’t take anything seriously, which made for a fun dynamic to watch, even if nothing much ever came of it in the end.
Despite Alexis constantly listing her feminist credentials, 7% of you liked it when she dressed up as Dobson the butler – a man. It gave her a chance to see how the other half lives. And leaves you to wonder just how blind, deaf, and dumb the citizens of Port Charles really are.
It’s an unwritten (?) GH law that all women must be tested out by Sonny (Maurice Benard) before they can move onto other men. Alexis was no exception. Despite her constantly listing her superior morality credentials, she went ahead and fell into Sonny’s bed, just like any other gun moll. And 3% were there for it!
