Black on black paired with black on black. That’s essentially been Jason and Sam from the start on General Hospital (GH), but the truth is, Jason’s the one who started the black t-shirt trend and Steve Burton finally tells us why.
On Wednesday, Burton appeared on the local ABC news station in LA to discuss the soap’s 55th anniversary and his memories. It was during that discussion where the black t-shirt topic came up.
Burton even arrived on the news set with a pile of black shirts, as he wasn’t sure which to wear for the interview. Unlike his PC counterpart, he eventually chose a black button down, but rolled up the sleeves because since when does Jason ever wear long sleeves? He had to be a bit in character, right?
The actor then explained why black t-shirts are the thing on GH and it has to do with sweat–yes, sweat.
He elaborated that the lights on the set would make him so hot, he’d have to keep changing shirts, so he and the powers that be decided just give him a wardrobe full of identical shirts to make things simple and ensure scenes had continuity.
Burton also reminisced about his days on GH but especially thanked generations of fans for sticking with the show through so many years.
He pointed out that he’s amazed by the family of fans he meets when on the road at different soap events. And then, he advises you tune in tomorrow for quite the 55th anniversary episode.
You can see the entire interview with Burton in the video above.
