Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) is looking for love at a singles event but she’s thrown a little too much caution to the wind (and perhaps a few too many drinks) and her behavior shocks Terry Randolph (Cassandra James) while Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) seems to be enjoying the scene.
Then the voiceover chimes in with “it’s said that love conquers all” as clips are shown of Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) hugging Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) being all smiles for Anna Devane (Finola Hughes)…but then the mood and music changes.
“But will this time be different,” rings out as shots of a worried Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) eyeing an on-guard Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) are seen. Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) then says to Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West), “There’s something you need to know.”
The scene switches to Charlie’s as Phyllis Caulfield (Joyce Guy) asks Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), “If you could do it all over again, would you make a different choice,” over shots of a tearful Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) hugging Sonny. GH made its debut in 1963 and was created by the husband and wife team of Frank and Doris Hursley, taking place at a hospital but in an unnamed city. In fact, the setting wasn’t named as Port Charles until the 1970s. General Hospital is the longest-running soap opera currently on air.
From legendary Laura’s (Genie Francis) four decades on and off and back on as the show’s leading heroine to Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) super-spy exploits to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his mobster activities, GH certainly knows how to please their viewers.
More than five decades of gripping drama as well as love in the afternoon have kept this ABC daytime soap on the air and winning Daytime Emmys. Epic romances, action-adventure stories, and love on the run have enthralled viewers over the years.
