The soap world was shocked when news broke about the death of soap veteran John Callahan on March 28, 2020. On Wednesday, December 23, the actor’s birthday, his ex-wife and former All My Children co-star, Eva LaRue, shared a tribute to her daughter Kaya’s father.
Eva LaRue Remembers John Callahan On His Birthday
The actress, who has been popping up on The Young and the Restless from time to time as Lola’s (Sasha Calle) and Rey’s (Jordi Vilasuso) mother, Celeste, took to her Instagram account to mark the special day with a stunning photo of the two of them.
“Happy Birthday my Friend,” she wrote. “Happy daydreams of dancing with you as we did on many a birthday or an average Tuesday, we needed neither excuse nor invitation.” If you scroll to the right in her post below, you will see the video she also included of them dancing. A clue appears in the hashtag, “#edmund&mariasfirstdate” of what the clip is about.
Callahan played the dashing Edmund Grey on All My Children from 1992-2005 while she played his lady love, Maria Santos, on and off from 1993-2011. It is rumored she may possibly be reprising the role in the updated primetime version, Pine Valley. Soap fans watched as their characters fell in love, not knowing the actors were doing the same in real life. They married in 1996 but ended up divorcing in 2005.
“There are no words to describe how I’d offer up a limb to hear another of your stupid pun streaks or harmonize with you around the kitchen island to your beloved Eagles & Beatles,” she continued. “As I think of it, I can hear you laughing goodheartedly about how I keep changing keys.
“That Irish twinkle, that wicked wit, that belly laugh… Turning up the music right now to dance & sing with you to celebrate your day! If only in my mind,” she shared. Soap Hub joins Eva LaRue in remembering John Callahan on what would have been his 67th birthday.
