Soap vets Tristan Rogers and Judith Chapman certainly have soaps in common, appearing on The Young and the Restless as Colin and Gloria, as well as on General Hospital. Recently, they reunited on Rogers’ YouTube show 6 Blocks Apart when Champman appeared on it as a guest.
Rogers and Chapman recalled their days at General Hospital where he still plays lawman Robert Scorpio and she was duplicitous Ginny Blake Webber. Chapman also talked about her show business origins.
“My family was living in Europe at the time,” Chapman recalls. “My sister was modeling and she became quite a sensation in the mid to late 1960s.” One day, Chapman’s sister’s agent called with a gig that wasn’t that big so the agent suggested Chapman go on the call!
That led to commercials and her first film, a spaghetti western, Up the MacGregors, in 1967. More opportunities followed, deterring Chapman from her original career path of becoming either an archaeologist or a marine biologist. “Because my mother said yes you can go and skip school [and do acting],” Chapman says her life changed.
She moved to New York at the tender age of 20. It was in the Big Apple where Chapman landed the role of Natalie Bannon (later Natalie Hughes) on As the World Turns. “That was my first soap opera,” Chapman recalls. “I was so painfully green I slept with my [apartment] door open.
“It’s easier to name the ones I haven’t been on,” Chapman quipped when asked if she could name the soaps on which she’s appeared.
Chapman recalls when she got the call from legendary General Hospital producer Gloria Monty to take a role on the show. The actress turned down Monty’s request to audition and went on a vacation instead. Her agent tracked her down and told her that Monty was offering her the role of Ginny without having to test for it. She had three days to report to the GH set!
Chapman was in Port Charles for a few years. During her appearance on 6 Blocks Away, a scene was shown in which Robert let Ginny know he was onto her. After he left, Ginny broke down to her husband Rick (Chris Robinson) that she had killed D.L. Brock (the late David Groh).
“For the life of me I cannot remember much,” said Rogers, adding with a smile, “Hey, come on, it was the 80s – that we found the studio each morning was amazing!”
In addition to appearing on GH and YR, Rogers and Chapman have also both been on The Bold and the Beautiful albeit at different times. She brought her YR character, Gloria, to BB in 2014; in 1997, Rogers played the part of private eye Hunter Jones. Check out the show on YouTube here.
