This sure has been a year like no other but getting to see soap opera icon Susan Lucci, who tackled just about everything imaginable during her decades as Erica Kane on All My Children, ride a mechanical bull certainly wasn’t on Soap Hub’s 2020 bingo card — and yet it happened.
The Daytime Emmy winner was looking back at the year and apparently went on a talk show (had to have been before the COVID shutdown of curse) where she was presented with this particular opportunity. She showed the clip to her fans on Instagram and it is everything you didn’t even realize you needed to see.
“In 2020, I got to ride a mechanical bull,” she enthused. “Thank you @dr_oz!!! #andilooklikesuchawimp😂😂😂” In the video post, which you can see below, Lucci looks a little worried as she says, “Go slow.” Dr. Oz tries to be encouraging from off-camera, letting her know she was doing it as the audience cheers her on.
The adventurous actress lets go with one hand but then seems to second-guess that idea as she says, “Oh my gosh.” She looks to be getting the hang of it but then asks the operator not to turn it up. Her squeals as he does will make you feel for the beloved star as the whole experience seems like a metaphor for this entire crazy year. Just when you think you have a handle — it gets more crazy!
Her followers had a good time in the post’s comments section, with @dustinfitzharris writing, “Once you’ve warded off a grizzly bear [which longtime fans will recall Erica having done], you can do anything! Hahah. What a ride 2020 has been!”
Lucci responded by saying, “@dustinfitzharris Hahaha!!! You’re so right, Dustin!” Considering that she just turned 74 this week, she is showing no sign of slowing down which is a good thing since former All My Children co-stars Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are rebooting the defunct soap with a primetime version called Pine Valley.
Will Susan Lucci take part in this new effort? No word has been released about the cast, but fans are certainly hoping so. And judging by how she handled that mechanical bull, it’s a good bet she’s up to any challenge this new show could throw at Erica Kane!
