Inga Cadranel has always brought an enigmatic quality to her role as Harmony Miller, a mother who got caught up in the Dawn of Day cult, headed up the charismatic Shiloh. Now, the writers have loaded her backstory with lots of secrets, making Cadranel even more compelling to watch. Soap Hub is bestowing Performer of the Week honors for GH on the actress.
Inga Cadranel – Performer of the Week
Harmony showed up on the scene a while back, hoping to rebuild her broken relationship with her daughter (or is that ‘daughter’) Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen). The writers incorporated Harmony into the story by revealing she worked at Spring Ridge home to psychotic Ryan Chamberlin (Jon Lindstrom). Previously, Harmony struck up an unlikely friendship with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) while the two were in prison together. But we had no idea just what secrets Harmony was carrying around until this past week when she flash-backed to creeping into Alexis’ living room and sticking a needle into a sleeping Neil Byrne (Joe Flanigan), presumably causing his death.
Is it us or does that flashback to killing Neil always seem to end just before the needle actually goes into his arm? Time will tell. What we know already is that Cadranel is doing a dynamite job of playing Harmony’s secrets. She’ll reveal just enough of the truth to those around her so that they can tell themselves she’s on the up and up. But the actress conveys to the audience that there’s so much more to her character.
Why did Harmony advance towards Neil with a needle? We’re waiting to find out. And what info is in that file that Neil’s brother Brendan (Josh Coxx) has on her? In the meantime, Harmony is carefully building trust with Alexis, who remains guarded (but, apparently, not guarded enough!) around her good acquaintance.
Inga Cardenal’s Harmony at times seems like she’s truly willing to change and that she truly cares about Willow and feels bad about something that occurred in the past. However, she had a menacing look on her face as she started to follow Alexis back into her darkened office and turned to see who might be watching her — in case she wanted to harm her ‘friend’ without being seen. That Friday tag left us with one thought — to quote Ghost’s Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg), ‘Alexis, you in danger girl!’ Brava to Cadranel, who has us greatly intrigued by her performances as Harmony.
