Alexis has certainly been having a hard time this year on General Hospital. From Neil Byrne dying in her bed after a passionate night together (from a drug overdose) and learning she has osteoporosis to falling off the wagon and having a one-night stand with the very married Ned.
Nancy Lee Grahn: Performer Of The Week
All of that has convinced Alexis it’s okay to drink because at least she can control it (so she says) and she really doesn’t care what anyone else thinks. And then came the news that Julian (William deVry) had died. Julian, the man who fathered her first child, was undoubtedly the (poisonous) love of her life, and the man who held a dagger to her neck — the same dagger that killed her mother when she was a child.
So, with a bottle of vodka on the table and a photo album on her lap, Alexis started going through years of family images. Actress Nancy Lee Grahn tried to present us a steady Alexis who was holding it together, but thanks to Grahn’s keen sense of the character she has portrayed for so many years, we could see Alexis falling apart ever so slowly until rage erupted and she tried to burn the entire album, even with photos of her three daughters inside.
That’s when Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) walked in to stop her and once again, Grahn and Alexis pulled it together. Nobody was going to see Alexis fall apart tonight. While Olivia was horrified at the idea of burning memories, Sam gave her mother permission to throw whatever part of her life she wanted right into the fire.
Grahn gave us a calm Alexis as she did just that while Olivia watched. Olivia tried to tell her she looked happy in the pics, but Alexis just sharply said “Lies” and set out setting her relationship with Julian aflame.
It was a moment she needed and Grahn even showed us Alexis’s head clearing a bit. She was relieved to have company and people both sanctioning her actions and caring about her. Perhaps this was even the calm before the storm as what Tracy (Jane Elliot) did to her is about to come out soon and that’s something we can’t wait to see this actress sink her teeth into. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
