It’s not easy to decide to kill your own brother, but that’s just what Ava Jerome felt she had to do this past week on General Hospital when all of Julian’s many crimes became too much to bear. Multiple Emmy-winner Maura West showed us all the emotions and then some when Ava confronted Julian and then dealt with the guilt of his alleged death.
General Hospital Performer of the Week: Maura West
It was just two weeks ago when Ava and Julian (William deVry) shared a tender ‘Jibling’ moment together when they told each other they loved one another as Ava realized Julian would likely need to skip town before Sonny (Maurice Benard) or Cyrus (Jeff Kober) killed him. And that love — combined with fury and frustration — is what prompted Ava to pull a gun on Julian once she learned he was responsible for the explosion at The Floating Rib that claimed two innocent lives and put her sister-in-law into a coma she may never recover from.
Maura West showed us Ava’s singular determination as she railed at Julian for his sins, his inability to ever grow and change, and his refusal to take any responsibility for his poor choices (to put it mildly). It turned out Ava never had to pull the trigger, however, as Sonny and Jason (of course) showed up on the Wyndemere parapet just as she was about to make her move. Julian jumped and Ava just assumed he didn’t make it. (We know he did.)
But West’s standout performance wasn’t over. She still had to confess all to Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) and we felt her love and pain as she told her husband she was choosing him over her brother, something we never expected Ava to do. She still mourns Julian but West has shown us Ava has grown over the years, even if her brother never did. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
