Is there anyone who wasn’t riveted by the Nexis one-night stand reveal this past week on General Hospital? Anyone who couldn’t wait for the next scene to air? It was perfect soap and everything we relish about the genre. While all performances were pitch-perfect, all eyes were on the wife who was wronged, Olivia, and her reaction. Actress Lisa LoCicero did NOT disappoint as Olivia, realized, railed, and then fell apart.
This affair reveal was different from many others is that Olivia followed the clues over the last few months and came to the conclusion on her own what happened. And as it all dawned on Olivia, LoCicero showed us the wheels turning in her character’s head. We could see it all come together with every expression on her face. Then, the moment of horror and disgust when she turned to Ned (Wally Kurth) and demanded the truth old us what she already knew — her husband had betrayed her.
While Olivia’s anger was evident, LoCicero could also convey to us the unbelievable pain she was trying to bury as she let loose on Ned, Tracy (Jane Elliot), Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn), and then Ned again. Her husband had never trusted her despite four years of marriage because he is a Quartermaine and they can never even trust one another, so how could they trust their spouses? (Just look at the run of Alan and Monica’s marriage.)
And yes, Alexis was drunk and never would have slept with Ned if she wasn’t, but there wasn’t a part of her during any moment of this night, from the first kiss to the first unbuttoned shirt, that she was doing something wrong here? LoCicero was a flood of anger and despair and showed us a side of Oliva we need to see more often — bringing that Brooklyn out.
It was only when she was alone that the anger left her face and the pain was everywhere. She could finally break down and LoCicero broke our hearts as we watched Olivia’s heart break in two. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
