During the week General Hospital officially celebrated Finola Hughes and her 35 years as Anna Devane on-set, the actress showed us just what she’s made of when Anna’s twin, Alex, arrived back in town and Hughes gave us a perfect performance.

Performer Of The Week: Finola Hughes

Anna’s reaction to learning Peter (Wes Ramsey) was not her son after all, but instead, Alex gave birth to him and transferred those memories to Anna, gave us both anger and despair. All those years Anna believed she had slept with the vile Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) she believed a lie. And all those years she believed she had another child had also been a lie. But how does she tell Peter, who she has spent two years bonding with?

Well, she didn’t get the chance because suddenly Alex appeared, knocked Anna out, and locked her in her own basement. Then, she once again decided to assume Anna’s life. This was not an easy task because Hughes easily shows us each time she plays these women how different they really are. All she had to do was utter one line — that Peter was her son — for Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) to know the truth. After all, he was there when the real Anna learned Peter was NOT her son.

But Peter does not know that yet and Hughes gave us a creepy feeling (but in a good way, trust us) when Alex saw Peter for the first time, and then an ultrasound photo of her grandchild. She looked at Peter in a way Anna never did and we almost wanted to tell Peter to run.

Alex also couldn’t get her ruse past Finn (Michael Easton) because she walked in the house while he was on the phone with Anna, trying to warn her fiance her sister was in town. Things went from bad to worse when Alex shot Finn and took off with a pregnant Maxie (Kirsten Storms) to hold her hostage on The Haunted Star. Hughes played Alex with glee at this point and we can’t wait to see what happens next. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
