General Hospital Franco
“Friz” fans were in a frenzy when Roger Howarth was killed off as Franco Baldwin on General Hospital, putting an end to his popular pairing with Rebecca Herbst’s Elizabeth. Knowing the two actors’ run as a super couple was over, was more than they could bear.
But what if it isn’t? What if Howarth’s destined to return to General Hospital and be immediately thrust back into Elizabeth’s world? It’s a wild twist that would totally work and appease viewers if his lookalike character is actually a blood relative — a brother no one knew existed.
Having Franco’s real-life twin arrive in Port Charles after he’s dead and buried, would evoke all kinds of chaos. Where’s the guy been all these years and why is he resurfacing now?
Surely, Elizabeth would have all kinds of questions for him and so would her kids, starting with number one son, Cameron (William Lipton), who came to love Franco as a father. And imagine Scott’s (Kin Shriner) shock when he comes face-to-face with a dead ringer for his dead son. They’ll all want answers.
The newcomer’s arrival in town could lead Elizabeth and Scott on a mission to learn more from Franco’s mother, Heather (Robin Mattson), who may or may not have known her son’s double even existed.
Plus, as the tale of where he’s been and how he’s been living his life unravels, there are bound to be questions about his temperament and personality. As a Franco twin, he might exhibit some of his brother’s dark dangerous past tendencies, putting Elizabeth and her family in jeopardy.
General Hospital has a penchant for telling twin stories and telling them well. So this twist seems like a natural one for the soap. Plus, it will allow the show’s writers to pen a poignant new romance for Howarth and Herbst, who work so effortlessly together.
Once again, sweet Elizabeth could work her magic and save another soul, while finding love with her soulmate’s lookalike. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
