He sent hearts aflutter as Noah Drake on General Hospital back in the early 1980s, and today Rick Springfield celebrates a huge milestone — and a new job!
Springfield was born Richard Lewis Springthorpe in Guildford, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on August 23, 1949, which means that he turns 69 today!
In 1981, Springfield joined General Hospital as a sexy doctor named Noah Drake, who romanced Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) and Tiffany Hill (Sharon Wyatt), just to name a few.
This was right around the time he was hitting it big on the rock scene with his megawatt hit, “Jessie’s Girl”, which made him a household name.
He left the show a couple of years later. During that time, a son was introduced — Patrick Drake, played by current The Young and the Restless star, Jason Thompson (Billy).
It wasn’t long before they were able to lure the rock star back in 2005, with sporadic appearances until 2008 and a couple in 2013.
Not only did he play Noah, but he also played his doppelganger — rock star Eli Love!
Well, the actor/singer received a great birthday gift today — news broke via Entertainment Weekly that he will be doing a guest shot on the ABC hit, The Goldbergs, during their third episode this season.
He will be playing Erica’s new boss — the owner of a karaoke bar called Gary-oke’s.
“At last I get to play a guy from the 80s,” Springfield told the magazine. “I’m excited to guest star on The Goldbergs and return back to 1980-something!”
