When Tracy Quartermaine showed up on General Hospital with news of Luke Spencer’s death, viewers weren’t sure why that story was being done now. (We realize that, in the real world, people die at unexpected moments all the time. But this is a TV show. Every action should have a reason.)
Should Port Charles hold a public memorial for one of its best-known citizens? What over 2,000 fans believe:
Luke (Anthony Geary) was once the mayor of Port Charles, 69% of you remind. Sure, he quit barely a month into his term once the love of his life returned from the dead and Luke decided he had better things to do. (Sort of the same way he’d then go on to dump the various loves of his life…and their children.) But a public figure deserves a public funeral. Whether or not the majority of current residents remember who he was or not.
If they’re going to eulogize Luke, then they should tell the whole truth about him, 27% of the audience advises. They should talk about how he walked out on Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) and Lulu (Emme Rylan). How he slept with the presumed dead Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) without bothering to mention to her husband – and Luke’s alleged best friend, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers), that she was still alive. How he was a mobster and a thug. And how he raped Laura Webber Baldwin (Genie Francis)…before he married her.
Port Charles shouldn’t lionize criminals, a last-place 4% sniff. If we publicly mourn a man like Luke, next thing you know we’ll be placing mobsters, killers, and other criminals on a pedestal. Can you imagine spending months mourning someone responsible for multiple deaths, not to mention a host of other crimes? What kind of people do you think we are?
