In the October 2 episode of General Hospital, Gio got more than he bargained for as he talked to Dante and Sonny. The fallout was a brutally honest revelation to Emma that proved Gio had no idea what it truly meant to be Sonny Corinthos’s grandson until now.

Key Takeaways

  • Gio was caught in the middle of Sonny and Dante.
  • Sonny desperately needed Gio, and he was there for him.
  • Gio made a bold confession to Emma.

Gio Was Torn Between Two People He Loves

When Gio (Giovanni Mazza) walked in on Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) fighting over the attack on Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Sidwell (Carlo Rotta), he was thrust in the middle. Gio revealed what Trina (Tabyana Ali) had told him and asked if it was true.

Sonny pleaded his case to Gio and insisted that Vito (Sam Duffy) had been told to tell Sully to watch over Sidwell, not to hurt him. Dante warned Gio not to fall for Sonny’s con, as he declared Sonny had fooled them all when he said he was done with the mob.

After Dante stormed out, Gio was left alone to face his grandfather, and he was conflicted.

Heartbreak Took Over Gio

Sonny pleaded with Gio that he wasn’t lying and that Dante was wrong. Gio relayed Trina’s request that Sonny leave Curtis alone. Sonny responded that he wasn’t a threat to Curtis and never was.

With tears in his eyes, Gio looked at his emotional grandfather. Sonny was also tearful and declared his innocence. Gio hugged Sanny as tears flowed down their faces.

It seemed like Gio was all in on believing Sonny. However, a conversation with Emma (Braedyn Bruner) proved that Gio has doubts but isn’t ready to turn his back on Sonny yet. Gio admitted he wasn’t sure he believed Sonny hadn’t ordered the attack on Sidwell that injured Curtis.

The Reality of Gio’s New Family

Even though Gio grew up in Sonny’s orbit, it was mostly from afar. Gio was family, but in a distant way, much like how Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) considers Sonny her uncle. It kept Gio away from what it was really like being part of Sonny’s family.

Being in Port Charles has given Gio insight into what it’s really like to be in Sonny’s family, especially when so many in the city hate him. Now that Sonny has been accused of hurting Curtis, the father of one of his good friends, Gio has just learned that loving Sonny isn’t easy.

The danger Sonny could pose to his family became real to Gio. It’s more than that, though, as Gio grapples with what to believe. Gio has never seen the vicious, vindictive mob-boss side of Sonny, but this incident gave him insight into that man.

Like others in Sonny’s family, Gio now has to deal with who Sonny really is as a person as well as the persona he believed about him for his whole life. Gio has to find a balance between Sonny the family man and Sonny the businessman, much like Michael (Rory Gibson) has done, and as Dante did until now.
