Will Emma and Gio Split Over Sonny on General Hospital?

Sonny may be innocent of having Isaiah attacked, but his history makes that harder to believe. Emma has plenty of reasons to stand by him, while Gio is still getting to know his grandfather. If they land on opposite sides, could Sonny become the first real test of Emma and Gio’s relationship?

Sonny is being accused of something he didn’t do on General Hospital. This is tragic, because Sonny has gotten away with so, so, SO many criminal things that he actually did do, that’s it’s unfair for him to be charged with something he didn’t. But while Sonny stresses that his loved ones might think he’s a liar — it’s one thing to be a killer and a kidnapper and an extortionist, but a liar? How will he ever live this down? We’re stressed that taking sides over his guilt or innocence might drive Emma and Gio apart.

Key Takeaways:

  • Sonny is accused of getting his thugs to beat up Isaiah in prison.
  • Emma is as loyal to Sonny as he once was to her mom.
  • Gio just met his grandfather, so he has little history with him.

Sonny’s Reputation Makes His Innocence a Tough Sell

Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) was beaten up in prison, and he’s convinced that Sonny (Maurice Benard) is behind it. We know it was actually Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Ava (Maura West), but Sonny is in the cross-hairs, and it’s making him totes sads.

After all, a man’s reputation is all he has, and how would Sonny be able to hold up his head in Port Charles if people thought he was capable of criminal behavior? Why, even Dante thought his dad might be guilty, for a hot minute. Who’s next?

Emma Has a Lifetime of Reasons to Believe in Sonny

We expect the canvas to take sides. Those who have had it out for Sonny for decades will obviously believe the lies being told about him. But they don’t matter. It’s Sonny’s loved ones who matter.

Where will Emma (Braedyn Bruder) fall? On the one hand, her mother, Robin (Kimberly McCullough), was practically a gun moll for Sonny. She is grateful to him, first, for what he did for her boyfriend, Stone (Michael Sutton), when he was dying, and then for the way that Sonny took in Jason, saving him from a life with a loving family, and making him a hitman, instead. You can never thank somebody enough for that. So, odds are, Emma will defend Sonny against all skeptics.

Gio Doesn’t Share Emma’s History With His Grandfather

But what if one of those doubters is Gio (Giovanni Mazza, who revealed the moment that changed things)? Sure, he’s Sonny’s grandson, and they’ve become close since the news first came out.

But Gio doesn’t have the kind of history with Sonny that Emma does. He was also raised by a good, moral person. What if he actually starts to question his grandfather’s mobster ways? Will this drive a wedge between him and Emma? It would, at the very least, give them a story. Which is always good.
