In the October 1 episode of General Hospital, Dante confronted Sonny over what happened to Curtis and Sidwell. The conversation escalated into a major fight. Along the way, Dante ignored the one thing that should have convinced him Sonny was telling him the truth.

Key Takeaways

  • Dante accused Sonny of lying to him.
  • Sonny made a valid point about why he wasn’t lying.
  • Things went from bad to worse as the father-son relationship reached a breaking point.

The Confrontation Neither Dante Nor Sonny Wanted to Have

Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) showed up at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) and wanted answers. Sonny had already planned for his son to stop by with questions.

What Sonny hadn’t planned on was Dante bluntly calling him a liar. Dante demanded the truth from Sonny, who gave it to him, then called him a liar.

There was a look of hurt on Dante’s face, but he was still convinced Sonny ordered the attack on Sidwell (Carlo Rotta) that led Curtis (Donnell Turner) to become collateral damage.

Dante Missed the Mark With Sonny’s Point

Sonny and Dante argued as Sonny declared his innocence. Dante continued to call out Sonny for making a show of leaving the mob when he didn’t.

The more Sonny defended himself, the more heated things got between father and son. Sonny tried to explain that he had worked to keep Sidwell safe and that he had been framed for the attack on Sidwell.

During the fight, Sonny remarked that if he wanted Sidwell dead, he would be dead. It was a comment that should have made Dante rethink his stance, but he didn’t.

In fact, Dante used the remark against Sonny as he threw his past in his face. The two ended with a heated exchange in which Sonny told him to get out and said he didn’t want a son like Dante, as Gio (Giovanni Mazza) listened at the door.

Sonny’s Right and Dante Should Listen Better

Dante made up his mind that Sonny ordered the attack the second that Sidwell implied it was his father. When he showed up at Sonny’s, it was more about seeing if Sonny would lie to him than getting to the truth.

The problem is that Dante can’t see things clearly, and it’s clouded his judgement. Sonny’s innocence should have become crystal clear to Dante when Sonny said Sidwell would be dead if Sonny wanted him dead.

Curtis would never have had a chance to save Sidwell or even get involved if Sonny wanted Sidwell dead. Sidwell would have been dead the moment men walked into the cell if Sonny was behind it.

Dante knows that about Sonny, but he didn’t even blink at the remark. Instead, Dante remained determined to get Sonny to admit his guilt, just because Dante deemed him guilty based on the fact that Curtis of all people.

Things are bad for Sonny and Dante, and they will likely get worse before the truth comes out.
