It was a shock to General Hospital fans earlier this year when Réal Andrews appeared on our screens as Marcus Taggert, Sonny’s longtime crime-fighting enemy who coined the term “Anger Boy” and hadn’t been seen in Port Charles since 2003.
Not only did Taggert return to PC, but we also just learned he had a daughter, Trina (Sydney Mikayla), BFF of Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) stepdaughter and one of the most engaging young characters Soap Hub has seen on a soap in years. Giving Trina a link to a classic GH character was just what we needed, but then suddenly, it was gone.
In a surprise move, Taggert was killed off the soap on Monday after he made himself a decoy for Trina to escape some hitmen, taking a bullet in the process. He seemed fine one moment, sent Trina to get some candy, and Lucas (Ryan Carnes) was announcing his death just a few minutes later.
Now, Réal Andrews has some words about the show and role that made him a soap opera household name more than two decades ago.
“RIP Taggert. Thanks everyone for all your support I appreciate you all it was a great run and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity,” Andrews wrote.
“Although I appreciate your support more than you know I am great Gods got me 😂
It’s Diamond [the actor’s dog] I am worried about when she heard the news about her Daddy being dead she went into a depression so pray for her please.
“It has been an honor and privilege working with Maurice, Steve, Sidney, Brianna, Dawnell’s and Genie. Thank you to Frank, the producers, and Writers for the opportunity. Thanks to Mark Techsner for always believing in me and thanks to all the crew and staff for making my stay an amazing one. God Bless”
Of course, many fans still hold out hope that Taggert faked his death with Sonny and Jason’s help. While that does not seem to be the case, anything can happen on a soap. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
