General Hospital Recap: The Nurses Ball With Some Twisty Twists

The General Hospital recap for August 17-21, 2020 features a Nurses Ball like no other, a number of shock attacks, the resurrection of a dead man, and more.

General Hospital Recap Highlights

A new year, a new Nurses Ball. But the 2020 gala was one with significant differences. Though AIDS and H.I.V charities were still championed and donated to, Frontline Workers was the cause of the day.

Instead of evening gowns and tuxedos, the gala’s attendees were attired in t-shirts and pants. And rather than view the festivities from the comfort of a front-row seat, the patrons were installed in equally lavish conference rooms and put to work as donation takers.

But the one thing that didn’t change was the propensity for unbridled drama. During a Nurses Ball, anything and everything can happen. Like a hot mic broadcasting Maxie’s (Kirsten Storms) pregnancy news to all and sundry. Or Nelle’s (Chloe Lanier) vicious attack on Brook Lynn (Briana Lane). And let’s not even discuss all of those missed cues and the musical numbers that never actually made it to the stage.

But despite all of those hiccups and more – including Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) learning about Ava (Maura West) and Nikolas’ (Marcus Coloma) manipulations – we’re going to rate the event a success.

The Living Dead

And we’re also going to give GH props for resurrecting Marcus Taggert (Real Andrews). Sure, we saw it coming all those months ago when Jordan (Briana Nicole Henry) placed that call to an unknown source but we like to be proven right.

What we don’t like, however, is Jordan putting the kibosh on Taggert’s plan to personally rid Port Charles of Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober). The fiend has already infiltrated the hospital – thanks to his monetary offering – and he’s responsible for Jason’s (Steve Burton) near-fatal motorcycle crash. How much more is this man going to get away with before he brought to justice?

Julian Gets His Groove Back

And while Taggert’s return to the land of the living might not have been much of a shock, we can’t say the same for Julian’s (William deVry) sudden – and very welcome – return to the dark side.

Sure, he did allow himself to be blackmailed into kidnapping Wiley right out from under Monica’s (Leslie Charleson) chloroformed nose. But when he drew his gun on Nelle and informed her that she wouldn’t be absconding her son, after all, there was little doubt that the Julian of old was back. And we approve. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
