The latest ratings are in for daytime TV and the week ending Sunday, May 3. How did your favorite soap operas fare with two of them featuring classic re-broadcasts and two airing original material?
If anyone thought that The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful would lose their rankings as the first and second-rated soap in total households while airing reruns, well, they may have another thing coming!
According to the Nielsen ratings, YR was the top-rated serial earning a 2.94 rating for the week. BB came in second with a 2.43. General Hospital, which has apparently added in lots of flashbacks in an effort to lengthen its inventory of original episodes, came in third with a 1.71. Days of Our Lives came in fourth place with a 1.50.
In the coveted demographic of women viewers aged 18-49 (aka W18-49), YR earned a .56, BB scored a .48, DAYS and GH each earned a .42. Each ratings point in W18-49 equals 650,900 viewers.
Last week, YR featured classic episodes that focused on the life of Katherine Chancellor (the late Jeanne Cooper). Viewers went down memory lane as Katherine came face-to-face with her doppelganger Marge (also played by Cooper).
Also, Katherine had an intervention after she fell off the wagon. Viewers were also treated to her wedding to Murphy (Michael Fairman) and witnessed a Jill (Jess Walton) and Katherine cake fight when tensions rose between the two women.
BB showcased a two-part docu-series Becoming Bold and Beautiful on Monday and Tuesday and showed episodes related to a Monte Carlo remote the rest of the week.
GH treated viewers to new episodes involving Mike’s (Max Gail) declining health, Chase (Josh Swickard) and Sasha (Sofia Mattson) conspiring to make sure Michael (Chad Duell) gets custody of his son. DAYS’ drama involved Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) stabbing Victor (John Aniston) following discovering the role he played in her believing that her and Brady’s (Eric Martsolf) daughter, Rachel, had died.
