Tamra Braun had a huge obstacle to overcome when she first returned to General Hospital. Braun had been super-popular as the second Carly, but now there was a fourth Carly – Laura Wright.
So, Braun signed on the dotted line to play Kim, Drew’s (Billy Miller) baby mama. When viewers first met Kim, she was a dedicated doctor and a protective mom to Oscar (Garen Stitt).
Later, she hit it off with Julian (William deVry), ex-mobster turned pub owner. But, is that enough to keep your attention from wandering? Here’s how almost 6,000 voters responded.
On Purpose
What is Kim’s point, exactly, 69% of you wonder. OK, so she can support Oscar as he deals with the always unstable Joss (Eden McCoy). And she can tell Drew how she really doesn’t know much about his past. And she can go camping with Julian.
But, what does Kim WANT? What’s her purpose, dramatically-speaking? Is she pining for Drew? Was Monica (Leslie Charleson) right? Is Kim after the Quartermaine money? Does she want Julian or is she just settling? An answer to any of these questions would be more interesting than what’s onscreen now.
Of course, with Oscar clearly not well when Tuesday’s show ended, she might get a real story. However, we still think it will be a side story.
By Accident
Kim and Julian are cute enough together, so 30% of the audience is willing to go along for the ride. Unlike that other Port Charles mobster, who can kill and threaten and still be defended by all and sundry, Julian is actually trying to leave his criminal past behind and go straight.
But, considering the lack of role models, he needs someone like Kim to help Julian walk the straight and narrow. And we know he’ll slip eventually. That should give Kim some soul-searching scenes, and we’ll all get to finally find out what she’s really about.
Then, we can finally make up our minds about whether or not this Carly redux has a point.
