General Hospital Remember When: Is The Annual Nurses Ball Missed?

It started in the early 1990s on General Hospital when head writer Claire Labine came up with the idea of a Nurses Ball to raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS research. Our favorite characters took a break from the daily drama to sing and dance their hearts out.

Who knew that Dr. Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) had the voice of Prince Charming? Or that his daughter, Emily Quartermaine (Amber Tamblyn), could dance like she was the daughter of a movie hoofer? Or that evil villain Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) dedicated at least an hour a day to diligent piano practice — or else how could he play like that? It’s been a while since Port Charles kicked up its heels. Do you miss it?

GH: Fun For All

It was such a refreshing change of pace, 79% of the audience recalls. There’s Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) dancing the tango! There’s Nurse Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) going disco! There are the Spencer men, Luke (Anthony Geary) and Lucky (Jonathan Jackson), singing the blues. Why can’t we have nice things anymore?

General Hospital: Unreal

Doctors don’t sing like Stuart Damon, the guy who played Prince Charming in Cinderella, Emily is not the daughter of Russ Tamblyn, and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) is way too busy scheming to practice his scales. The whole thing is unrealistic, 13% of you dismiss, and it made it harder to believe in these characters.

Switch It Up GH

It doesn’t have to be a Nurses Ball, 8% of fans are willing to compromise. But we would like to see more opportunities to get the cast together. We realize that Covid is still a thing, but if the shows were willing to break quarantine to get in front of the cameras and make money, surely, they can continue ignoring health protocols so that we can see all of our favorites in the same room?
