It’s hard to believe it’s nearly been a year since Steve Burton returned to General Hospital as Jason Morgan. It’s even harder to believe he still hasn’t reunited with Sam.
The “Jasam” love story, once one of the soap’s strongest, has been pushed to the sidelines. Jason and Sam (Kelly Monaco), once one of the soap’s most passionate couples, have inexplicably been put into the friend zone.
Apart for So Long
Did Burton ever think it would be a year and the duo still wouldn’t have reunited? “I really didn’t know,” he says candidly. “I think there was so much story that had to be told because they’d been apart for so long. And Sam moved on with someone else [Billy Miller’s Drew].”
Of late, the couple has shared some warm moments, particularly with their young son Danny (T. K. Weaver). There have been more exchanged smiles between them and a few longing glances.
Got to Have Hope
It’s all left GH viewers salivating for more; namely, a full-fledged Jasam reunion.
“I think there’s hope. There’s always hope,” points out Burton with a smile. “They still love each other, obviously. I just don’t know when [they’re going to actually get back together]. At this point, I think we’re all waiting for that.”
No matter when it happens, Burton will attest to one thing. He’s been a huge fan of the way things have played out since his return as Jason Morgan.
That Twin Turn
“The writers did an amazing job,” praises Burton. “The whole identical twin story could have not been great, but it was great. The way I came back to the show was awesome.”

Speaking of twins, Burton doesn’t see any brotherly bonding with Jason and Drew – at least not in the immediate future.
“Billy and I had some scenes together recently with [T.K. Weaver, who plays Danny]. And then they had me warning him, ‘Hey, there might be something going on here. Watch your back.’ But I don’t know about anything else.”
The New Jason
One thing Burton does know is that he has a theory about Jason’s missing years. “Something happened to Jason in Russia. They did something to him, although I’m not quite sure what it was,” says Burton. “Because he talks a lot more since he’s come back.
“When I talk more than Carly, there’s a problem,” delivers Burton with a chuckle. “That’s number one. And when I cry more than Carly, that’s a problem. That’s number two. I think it’s ‘manopause.’”
The Old Jason
Burton was thrilled to get back to the old Jason when his character went rogue and broke Carly (Laura Wright) out of Ferncliff.
“I loved that,” admits Burton. “That’s what Jason does. That’s who he is. If I don’t talk and I do action, it’s a great show.”
