There’s a published report that there’s another shakeup at General Hospital with the show’s writers. Patrick Mulcahey, revered as the industry’s most prolific dialogue writer, reportedly is exiting as head writer. Former top scribe Chris Van Etten is rumored to be returning to his head writer duties.
Last year, it was announced that longtime GH co-head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor were leaving Port Charles and that long-term show writer Elizabeth Korte and veteran soap scribe Patrick Mulcahey (GH, Loving, Guiding Light, Santa Barbara, and Bold and the Beautiful) were the show’s new head writing team.
Now, NaVell Lee of Buzz Worthy Radio is reporting that Mulcahey is out as head writer and that Van Etten, who has been writing breakdowns on the show, is back as co-head writer. (Korte will remain in her position.)
Since Mulcahey and Korte took over the show’s ratings have been in decline. According to Soap Opera Network, during the week of May 6 to 10, GH was below the two million viewer mark, averaging just 1.876 million viewers.
On a more positive note, GH remains ABC’s top-rated show in the coveted demographics of Women 18-49 and Women 25-54.
At press time, GH has not made any announcements regarding reported changes to the show’s writing team. Soap Hub will keep you posted on developments as they become available.
