Cameron Webber’s last appearance on General Hospital was in February when he returned from college to attend the funeral of Spencer Cassadine. While Cam attended Stanford, his portrayer, William Lipton, took time off from the show to pursue higher education. Always open to returning when his schedule permits, Lipton’s coming back for a brief time to reprise Cam and help the character catch up with friends and family in Port Charles.
Welcome Back, Cameron
Certainly, his on-screen mother Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) will be thrilled to have her son back to bring his positive vibes, now that people in the hospital are being picked off by a mysterious killer. With the news of Lipton’s return to GH spreading like wildfire, he excitedly told TV Insider, “I think the people who are tuning in will be really happy to see Cameron being as happy as he is at this current stage of his life.”

Among the many friendly faces he came back to, Lipton remarked about one who was most important in Cam’s life. “I was able to see Becky [Herbst], which was so, so sweet. She’s been nothing but supportive to me and to my mom throughout the years at GH and it was just really sweet to get a really big, warm hug from Becky.” He was also greeted by several other co-workers — from the people at the front gates to his castmates. “I’ve really enjoyed my experience there and the fact that I got to continue it, even for just a little appearance, warms my heart so much.”

Family First
It took Lipton a quick second to get back into the swing of things. And when it was his time to shoot scenes, he noted to himself, “OK, this is how they do it. I forgot about that.” He reminded himself about the fast pace of daytime drama filming. He was also happy to reconnect with old friends, including Eden McCoy (Josslyn) and Maurice Benard (Sonny). But the one thing that surprised many of his castmates was seeing him before he got to the hair and makeup department.
Preferring to have more of a “crazy” hairstyle in real life versus Cam’s more clean-cut look, he had to explain to his co-workers, “This is 7 a.m. William Lipton, not proper and pristine Cameron Webber [Laughs].” He further noted that Cam’s not returning for anything major, just reconnecting with family which is most important to him. “At the end of the day, it’s just him celebrating the love that he has for his family and the love that he feels from his family.”
