Why General Hospital’s Steven Webber Needs To Return

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve seen Steven Webber on General Hospital. Arrested by the Memphis police right in the middle of his wedding to Olivia, he went off to jail for killing a former patient to transplant their heart to another patient. Now that it’s been revealed that he’s out of prison, will he return to Port Charles?

Liz Needs Him Stat

Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) told Terry (Cassandra James) that her brother Steven (Scott Reeves) was released from prison on the September 23 episode. But because his mother, Heather (Alley Mills), is still in the Port Charles area despite also being in jail, Liz sincerely doubts he would want to return, especially after all the living heck Heather made of his life. But now that Heather’s on the verge of also being released, it’s high time he came back and assessed the situation.

We all know he committed a crime and had to pay for it, but to relocate to Sedona and bury his head in the sand is the coward’s way out. Liz has gone through some tough times in recent years and could use her brother to lean on. He always gave her good advice, and although she’s doing well now, she will need a pep talk here and there when things start to go south. Plus, her son Cameron (William Lipton) needs a new father figure if and when he returns from college. (Learn about the last time Cameron was in Port Charles.)

Olivia Needs Some Spice

Although Reeves currently lives in Tennessee, he’s still acting, appearing in two films in 2024: Someone Like You and Ride. Many of the show’s actors commute from varying distances, and so could he. But, if the show chose to recast Steven, it wouldn’t make too many waves. Steve’s father was Jeff Webber, who was originally played by fan-favorite Richard Dean Anderson and was recast with William Moses in 2022. It would be nice to see an on-screen father/son reunion.

Also, Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) has been sidelined for a while and needs a story boost. She and Ned (Wally Kurth) are a bit complacent at the moment and if Steve tried to rekindle things with her, it would spice things up. And although she’s not as wacky as she used to be, Heather will need a little wrangling to keep her in line, and Steve will be the one to do that. Besides, the Webber family used to be prominent on the show, and just as the Quartermaines are currently filling up their mansion, another Webber in the mix is always welcome.
