After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the General Hospital Creation fan event returned to the Marriot Convention Center in Burbank, California. Soap Hub was on the scene for some of the Q&A panels, including one with Wes Ramsey, who recently wrapped up his reign of terror as Peter August.
During a panel featuring Ramsey, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), and Cameron Mathison (Drew), Ramsey was asked a variety of questions including what he thought of the response fans had to Peter’s list of crimes. “I suppose it’s exciting,” Ramsey responded. “If there were no reaction and everyone was bored, then maybe I wouldn’t be doing my job?”
Which crime of Peter’s was most heinous? “There were a lot,” Ramsey said. “It was over four years of conflict with Peter in Port Charles. I think that in his mind, he was never doing something that was so bad.”
“That’s why you were so liked,” Mathison interjected.
Ramsey says that Peter’s early years affected his actions as an adult. “[Peter’s] morality wasn’t a normal code,” he offers. “He was skewed from childhood — what he considered [to be] good or bad was based on his father [Cesar Faison, played by Anders Hove] and childhood. That allowed me to continue full force with his convictions regardless of the feelings of not being reciprocated by other people.” Translation: Peter did what he felt like and didn’t care if other people were hurt.
“Peter never had a family,” Ramsey continues. “He just wanted to be loved. Unfortunately, he was broken to begin with, but he believed it was still possible for him. I encouraged that aspect of his journey.”
Did Peter ever enjoy committing some of his manipulative acts? “I think he enjoyed framing Obrecht [Kathleen Gati],” the actor says. “She tortured him in the cabin. He never forgot that.”
Ramsey was asked also what viewers can expect from him next. “That’s a very good question,” he said. “I appreciate all the fan support I’ve received over the last few years. GH has been one of my favorite journeys. I promise to keep you all posted on whatever the next chapter may bring. I’m looking forward to it. I can tell you that.”
The Port Charles baddie was queried more specifically if he’d be back as Peter’s twin or double. Not only are twins not uncommon on daytime, but they’re in Peter’s bloodline. His late mother Alex had a twin sister — Anna Devane (both played by Finola Hughes). “Isn’t that the beauty of daytime?” Wes Ramsey replied. “You never really know. The writers and producers of daytime are capable of doing anything. I have no idea about any of that. Certainly, they know where to find me.”
