Carlo Rota found a home with General Hospital. His character, Sidwell, will become a mainstay in Port Charles. Sidewell is the new owner of Wyndemere. In a new interview, Rota shared his showbiz journey.
Unconventional Acting Method
It’s never too late to start a new career. That was the case for Rota. He started acting at 30 years old. By then, he worked as a restaurateur and had no desire to get into acting.
His reason for getting into acting wasn’t conventional. Rota revealed to TV Insider that he suffered a midlife crisis. He had an important decision to make: continue working in the restaurant industry or make his start in the entertainment industry.
“My father, who was a chef, my mother, brothers, sisters, and it just became overwhelming, to the point where I don’t know, I had an early midlife crisis — or, one might call it, a mini nervous breakdown! I don’t know what it was, but one day I just said, ‘I can’t do this anymore,'” Rota explained.
This put him at a career crossroads, so he sought advice from his friends. They reminded him that he has “a natural empathy for people.” Rota channeled that into his acting. Also, he had no prior experience, so he took acting classes to improve his skills.

Not bad for a new actor. “24 definitely became the big one [on my list of acting credits]. That was such a popular show and remains popular in people’s eyes,” Rota exclaimed.
Now he’s on another popular soap. GH has many dedicated fans. They’ve warned up to Rota’s character and look forward to seeing more of his story unfold. What are your thoughts on Rota’s acting journey? Let us know in the comment section.
