The timing of General Hospital writers’ switch is perfect for Jason Morgan’s return to the show. Knowing that the sure-to-be complex and emotional storyline will be in the hands of veteran scribes Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahey instantly raises the stakes and quality of what viewers can expect. And it’s a pretty safe bet, they won’t be disappointed.
Plotting the Course
Ever since the news that actor Steve Burton would be reprising his role as mob kingpin Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) enforcer was revealed at the end of General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars & Storytelling, fans have been speculating about how Jason Morgan would make his way back to Port Charles (the date is revealed here). Their hopes for a top-notch plot are understandably big. After all, it’s what they’d been dreaming about ever since Burton exited the soap in 2021, and his character was left for dead beneath a collapsed tunnel on Cassadine Island.
Knowledge and History
Now that plot will be crafted by Korte and Mulcahey. Korte has been a major part of the show’s writing team since 1994, which means she has 30 years of knowledge and expertise about all things GH. She knows the soap’s history and, most importantly, the ins and outs of Jason Morgan, his friendships, and his complicated familial and romantic relationships. That knowledge will fuel a comeback story that is not only true to the character, but also true to what fans want and expect for him.
Impressive Background
While Mulcahey has spent lesser time writing for GH -– he last worked there as associate head writer and breakdown writer from 1998 to 1999 and was a scriptwriter in 1996 –- he also knows soap. Plus, he has an extensive daytime background that includes stints at Search for Tomorrow, Texas, Guiding Light, Loving, Santa Barbara, and The Bold and the Beautiful, and a boatload of Daytime Emmys to show for it. During his tenure, he’s earned the reputation of being one of the best in the field.
A Dream Team
Pair Mulcahey’s skill and acumen with Korte’s decades of GH knowledge and know-how, and the soap has struck head writers’ gold at the perfect time. It has a dream team at the helm to give Jason Morgan and his fans the comeback they all deserve.
