TJ and Molly are headed for Splitsville on General Hospital. But while this iteration of TJ navigates the troubling emotions caused by the death of their surrogate baby, his original portrayer, Tequan Richmond, has been navigating an entirely different path. From 2012 to 2018, he played TJ Ashford, and he left because he got a starring role in Boomerang, a TV show sequel/reboot to Eddie Murphy’s 1992 comedy film of the same name. Now, he’s appearing in another sequel of sorts to a film by another famous comedian.

Millions Are at Stake

1985’s Brewster’s Millions starred iconic comedian Richard Pryor and the late comic John Candy. The film was based on the 1902 novel by George Barr McCutcheon and was a remake of the 1945 film starring Dennis O’Keefe. In it, Pryor plays Montgomery Brewster, a baseball player who stands to inherit $300 million if he can spend $30 million in a month, but with some major stipulations: he can’t tell anyone, can’t give it away, and can’t use it to purchase assets.

Now, Richmond will appear in a sequel to the film called Brewster’s Millions: Christmas. He posted about it on Instagram, writing, “Brewster’s Millions: Christmas is Streaming Today on @betplus. Much love to the Pryor Family, The Nasser Family & @pcuffiejones for having me ❤️- TR.”

Holiday Chaos

The film stars Disney alum China Anne McClain (A.N.T Farm) as Morgan, the niece of Brewster who’s played by Pryor’s son Richard Pryor Jr. According to IMDb, she must “Inherit her uncle’s fortune before Christmas. Amid holiday chaos, she discovers love, faith, and family’s importance through giving.” Richmond plays a character named Big Ty, and Richard Pryor Sr.’s daughter, Rain Pryor, also appears in the film. Telma Hopkins, who played Isabelle in the 1980s sitcom Bosom Buddies, which was Tom Hanks’ breakout show, plays Aunty Brewster, who tasks Morgan with helping people if she wants to keep her fortune. The task seems daunting for the spoiled rich girl, but as with most Christmas films, it’s sure to have a happy ending.

We’re excited to see Richmond again, and it looks like he’s joining the ranks of soap stars who also make Christmas movies. Brewster’s Millions: Christmas is currently streaming on BET+.
