Now that Nicholas Chavez is officially out as General Hospital’s Spencer, Tabyana Ali chimed in about where she thinks Trina is going from here. Ever since Spencer seemingly died while protecting her from the evil Esme, fans have been pondering the fate of Sprina.
Ali Wished Chavez Well
Once hailed as the next super couple, Trina (Tabyana Ali) and Spencer (Nicholas Chavez) were no Luke and Laura, but a loyal fan base sprung up around Sprina them nevertheless. Sadly, any further exploration of their storyline has been abruptly halted. Chavez had taken a hiatus from the sudser to play Lyle Menendez in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and fans assumed he would be back after production on that was done, to hopefully explain how Spencer survived falling off of a boat outside of Paris, France. But when Chavez released a message confirming his departure to X, formerly Twitter, on May 3, any hope of his return in the near future was dashed. (Learn more about Spencer and Trina’s romance.)
Ali spoke with Soap Opera Digest in an interview recently and was candid about what she hopes the future has in store for Trina. She started off by praising Chavez and the storyline, stating, “It was great creating Sprina together with him. I want the best for him and all of his endeavors, and I hope that we will get the chance to work together again someday. I also want to show my gratitude to Sprina Nation as well.”
The interview took place at an event called “Celebrate the 80s With The GH Ladies,” which was a dance party, and the outlet explained how Ali got her groove on with co-star Finola Hughes (Anna) and was very convivial with the fans.
The Unknown Future Rolls Toward Ali
Ali discussed what she hoped would be in Trina’s future. “It might be a long shot, but I really wanted [her] to turn into some cool, edgy, if I can say — excuse my French — b@d@ss,” she excitedly explained. She further added, “I want her to just be…just cool, to have another side of her. I think she’s such a kind person.” She further speculated that an exploration into Trina’s darker side was in order, remarking, “I would like her to have a vendetta story or a revenge story. Or the love of her life is gone and now she just turned evil a little bit.”
However, Ali knows her character, who even found it in her heart to forgive Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl) to some degree, and stated, “But I don’t know how much that would be possible. She’s such a kind-hearted person at her core.”
