With good guys fighting bad guys, explosions, and near-death experiences on General Hospital, all the fans can think about is that Jason and Anna kissed amidst the chaos. Because it seemed to come from out of nowhere, Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson discussed why the kiss happened.

A Kiss Before Dying

On their YouTube show and podcast Daily Drama, Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) explained that they watched the climactic battle sequence as the heroes of Port Charles fought to save Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) and bring him home. After doing so, Anderson remarked, “We saw some things.”

They were referring to the kiss between Jason and Anna (Finola Hughes). In trying to approach why it happened, Burton stated, “This was a little hard to navigate in the sense that, you know, ‘Oh, we’re both dying,’ and then you just kiss. These are two people who’ve been in danger their whole lives, and I don’t think Jason has a great fear of dying.” He then added that as actors, they had to wonder the reasoning behind it from a writing standpoint.

It Should Have Meaning

Burton speculated that Jason now has much to live for, including his kids. Having been away for two years enhanced his appreciation of living. In analyzing the scene and the reasons behind the kiss, Anderson pondered, “Storywise, is there going to be something after this, or is this just like a flash in the pan? What are we building towards? Or are we not building to anything?” Burton said it shouldn’t be done just for shock value. And there should be a greater meaning behind it.

The kiss happened while the two characters were in a makeshift jail cell, and Burton explained, “I think maybe from the writers’ standpoint, Jason and Anna have had a good alliance. They have worked together well.” He further added that the two believed they were going to die. “I don’t know if you’ve seen Jason go, ‘I think this is it.’ ” Anna was becoming unglued because there didn’t seem to be a way out, and both thought it was over. As Jason pulled her close to console her, they heard the guards coming. “And then I made the choice to kiss her. And then we’ll see what happens.”
