Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson, who are typically known as General Hospital’s comedy duo, have now taken to their podcast to reflect on the emotional experience of shooting Sam’s funeral scenes.

Spinelli’s Speech

On a new episode of Daily Drama, co-hosts Burton and Anderson delved into what it was like to film Sam’s (ex-Kelly Monaco) funeral. “We so enjoyed the ensemble nature of that because it was a really cool way to celebrate the character, and in our own way, celebrate our friend, too,” Anderson (Spinelli) said about the scenes.

Anderson went to appreciate the way many characters close to Sam were able to give speeches about her, including his own. “It was incredibly well written – not just in terms of, like, how it was written – but contextual; context-wise.”

Burton (Jason) noted that when different writers come in and out of the show, it can be hard for the characters to have consistent points of view, but this episode accomplished that with Spinelli’s appreciation for “Fair Samantha” befriending the nerdy guy at a time when it wasn’t cool.

“What was cool is they really tired in, as you said, the point of view with a really kind of educated knowledge of what the characters had together and really distilled how the character Sam affected each person,” Anderson noted.

A Round Of Applause

The pair also delved into some behind the scenes of filming the funeral. “What happened is, they were all shot individually,” Anderson explained about each person’s speech. “But what was cool is that each person got to go up, do their work, and then everybody got a round of applause.”

Both actors acknowledged the opportunity to film the group scene and celebrate their fellow actors. “We could all kind of enjoy being together, enjoy celebrating each other’s artistry, while we were celebrating our friend as well,” Anderson said.
