Nikolas has had some trying times on General Hospital, particularly because of his many bad decisions over the years. Although he’s in jail and has pretty much ruined any chance of having a meaningful relationship with Ava, they still have a bond and chemistry. That chemistry comes from the real-life relationship of their portrayers, Adam Huss and Maura West, and her friendship has helped him get through a tough situation in real life.
He Suffered a Major Loss
Adam Huss was seen on the August 27 GH episode when Nikolas’ mother, Laura (Genie Francis), visited him in prison to find out if he was a viable match to donate part of his liver to his sister, Lulu. When it turned out that he couldn’t help her, he was crushed, and in a very emotional scene, he and Laura commiserated about it.
Huss told Soap Opera Digest in August what had been going on in his life that affected him as an actor. He explained that his grandmother on his father’s side had died at age 91, and her passing had “Really hit me hard. And it happened the day before I had to go film.” However, one of his favorite scene partners was able to help him get through it and shoot his scenes.
West Supported Him
On that day, before filming his scenes, he and Maura West talked, and she could tell something was up with him. He explained his loss to her, so she asked him about his grandmother. “She wanted to know about her,” he explained, noting her compassion by adding, “It was just a really kind moment.”
He stated that he has a love for West and explained that after their conversation, “We filmed the scenes a couple hours later, and it was just infused with that love that I have for her as a person and that Nikolas still has for Ava.”
Since they first started acting together, they realized they had a special kind of chemistry, and Huss was very grateful for that connection and her support, which got him through a difficult time. (Find out if Nikolas and Ava will have a reunion.)
