Poor Willow can’t catch a break on General Hospital. Between Drew getting shot, her marriage to Michael blowing up, and the tug-of-war over the kids, she’s been drowning in one disaster after another. On top of that, her complicated relationship with Nina keeps drawing the two close and then pushing them apart, so it’s no wonder Willow’s at her wits’ end. Katelyn MacMullen recently discussed Willow’s issues and made a strong argument in favor of Willow getting some therapy to help her through these tough times.
A Story That Keeps Twisting
MacMullen opened up to Soaps and revealed her shock at how Willow’s path has been so rocky and unpredictable. “Even when this storyline first started, I had no idea where it was going,” she remarked, adding that the writers have kept her guessing in the best way. She would also love to see a deep dive into Willow’s mental health happen on the show.
The actress wants to know more about how the inner battles of Willow’s psyche inform her (often bad) choices. This would explain why Willow’s emotions keep pushing her in the wrong direction. “That could be really interesting to explore,” she stated.
Paging Dr. Collins
MacMullen even suggested a solution herself: “Put her on a therapist’s couch and see what comes to light!” she said, imagining what Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) could uncover. Therapy could give Willow the space to stop spiraling and start healing-something that’s been a long time coming.
For now, Willow’s path is still uncertain. MacMullen admitted her alter ego is “a little lost right now,” but that’s also what makes her story relatable.
