One Life to Live Veteran Josh Kelly Joins General Hospital

Port Charles is about to get a lot hunkier — if that’s possible given the show’s cast! Actor Josh Kelly, who played ex-Marine Cutter Wentworth on One Life to Live, has been cast in an unknown role on General Hospital.

Josh Kelly Joins GH

Deadline was the first to report that Kelly is coming to General Hospital. Details about who Kelly will be playing are mostly being kept under wraps. However, the story teases that Kelly’s role will affect the lives of Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), and Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud).

It’s not a stretch for soap fans to speculate what character the above-mentioned trio has in common — Jason Morgan. Steve Burton, who played Jason, exited the ABC soap last year following Disney’s mandate that all employees be vaccinated against COVID-19. But would the GH brass attempt to ask viewers to accept another Jason?

Is Kelly Playing a Recast Role?

After Burton left the show back in 2012, the show later hired actor Billy Miller to play Jason Morgan. After Burton himself returned to GH following a run on The Young and the Restless as Dylan McAvoy, the storyline was adjusted to reveal that Miller’s character wasn’t Jason at all but rather his twin brother, Drew Cain.

Recently, the peacock, NBC’s streaming service, confirmed that Burton was going be a cast member in the next installment of Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem which is set to stream on the peacock in July. He’ll be reprising his role of Harris, which he originally played in 1988. Last year, the role of Drew was recast with fan-favorite Cameron Mathison.

Josh Kelly Almost Played Joey Buchanan

So who will Kelly be playing if it’s not a recast Jason? Britt’s been reluctantly exploring the world of online dating and was recently stood up for a blind date at Beradino’s. Perhaps Kelly’s playing a love interest for the dynamic GH Chief of Staff?

Kelly’s Cutter appeared on OLTL from December 29, 2010, to December 29, 2011. He was originally cast as Joey Buchanan but the show opted to switch roles; Kelly became Cutter. Actor Tom Degnan took on the part of Joey. Kelly reprised Cutter for the short-lived OLTL revival on the Online Network version of OLTL in 2013.

Josh Kelly is also known for his role as Jeremy Craner on UnREAL, the Lifetime scripted series that shared what it was like to be backstage at a reality dating series in which numerous women compete for a desirable suitor. Jeremy played a cameraman on the show within the show. Soap Hub will bring readers details on just who Kelly will be playing on GH as they become available.

General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Port Charles, check out all the latest that’s been posted on GH spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
