Sure, no body was found but fans shouldn’t expect to see Nicholas Alexander Chavez back on General Hospital. Soap Hub first reported that the Daytime Emmy winner’s name had dropped off the show’s closing credits. Now, there’s word that he will not be coming back either for a limited run or longer stays.
TVLine reported that numerous sources have shared with the outlet that Chavez will not be checking back into GH. Chavez had left the show earlier this year to film his role as Lyle Menéndez in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix anthology series Monster. Season 2 of Murphy’s series is officially titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story.
At one point there was a plan in place for Chavez to come back to GH once his role in Monster was completed. That appears to have been jettisoned. In January, Spencer was presumed dead after he and his ex-girlfriend Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl) fell into the Siene in France. Spencer seemingly died while protecting Trina.
Chavez joined GH in the summer of 2021. He quickly emerged as a fan favorite due in no small part to his on-screen pairing with Trina, first played by Sydney Mikayla; now, Tabyana Ali. Fans quickly dubbed the duo “Sprina.”
Chavez was acknowledged by his peers for his acting when he took home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Performer in 2022. The actor also won the Soap Hub Award for Favorite Newcomer in 2021. Chavez said on The Talk that he was “so, so thankful to every single fan who watches the show and especially the ones who have welcomed me with open arms and appreciate the work that we’re doing for them.”
Spencer and Esme have graves in Port Charles but there’s always a chance that both characters could do the Lazarus bit and make their way back to the story canvas. Pohl could reprise Esme. Perhaps GH will hire a new Spencer — wouldn’t Rory Gibson (criminally under-used as Noah on The Young and the Restless) make a good one? Who do you think could play Spencer?
