When Nicholas Alexander Chavez decided to leave his role as Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital to pursue other projects, fans knew that he would go on to greater success. His Ryan Murphy shows Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and Grotesquerie have become huge hits. As a result, Chavez has been all over the internet, and a fan cut from Monsters even drew the actor’s attention, surprising him as to how much his fame has snowballed.
He Couldn’t Believe His Fame
People released an interview with Chavez on Tiktok in which he stated his incredulousness at his stratospheric rise: “I could have never predicted that. What blows me away is Victoria showed me a video of a bunch of people in a college classroom – like literally hundreds of people gathered in a college classroom watching this edit what was so funny to me.” Victoria is his girlfriend, an actress who has appeared in the Netflix series Echoes and appeared in Grotesquerie.
“I’m kind of like bowled over by the whole thing,” he stated, adding, “More than anything, I’m glad people are having fun.” He stated that he truly enjoys being an entertainer, loves the entertainment industry, and getting emotional responses from the audience. He further stated, “However, people bond and connect with each other…I think it’s all sick.” And he meant sick in a good way, not that his shows are unhealthy.
15 Seconds to the Top
He also told People in a printed interview that the success of Monsters has opened new doors to him that previously may not have been. The fan-made TikTok video (“The Nicholas Chavez Edit”) is only 15 seconds long. The actor was blown away by the fact that over 5 million people have viewed it. In fact, he loves how people react to it. “But it is strange to see the response,” he stated.
But in response to the overwhelming fan adoration for Monsters, specifically Chavez’s performance as Lyle, he remarked, “I really appreciate that people are responding to the work.” He felt that if a viewer gets something out of it, he succeeded at his job.
