Nathan Dean, formerly known as Nathan Parsons, is reprising his role as Ethan Lovett on General Hospital, the son of the late Luke Spencer and Holly Sutton. The actor originally played Ethan from 2009 to 2012 and has returned for brief appearances since then.

What to Know About Nathan Dean

An Australian native, Dean was raised in Colorado and Texas. He began acting in elementary school and, after attending a summer musical theater camp, began working professionally for the company. Realizing he was born to perform, Dean moved to Los Angeles, where he landed GH and later went on to star on primetime hits like True Blood, Once Upon a Time, The Originals, and Roswell, New Mexico.

Want to learn more about the actor? Here are seven things to know about Nathan Dean.

1. During Dean’s early career, he performed voice work for anime productions. As a child actor, he dubbed voices for the Japanese films, including the lead role of Jean Roque-Raltique in Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, as well as parts in Jing: King of Bandits, Soul Hunter, and Devil Lady.

2. In addition to acting, Dean is also a skilled dancer. He was a member of Boom Kat Dance Theatre, a non-profit dance company based in Santa Monica, California.

3. Dean’s favorite dance style is tap, which he began when he was around 9 or 10. He’d practice outside as a kid growing up in Texas. “I’d be tap dancing in my front yard, and people would start making fun of me,” he revealed in an interview.

4. During his initial stint on GH, Dean was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Young Actor in a Drama Series. He lost to former Days of our Lives star Chandler Massey, who took home the gold for his portrayal of Will Horton in 2012.

5. Dean revealed the best piece of advice he ever got from his GH dad, Anthony Geary, during an interview with glamour.com. “[He told me] ‘The worst they can ever tell you is no.’ I try to apply that to my everyday life, but especially in work, because I’m more timid in life,” he said

6. Unlike most aspiring actors who move to LA, Dean never waited tables while waiting for his big break. “I actually refused to be a waiter,” Dean shared during a video interview with TenaaTV and Party Nerds Pop-Cast. “That was one of my first hard rules when I moved out to LA. I ended up having a whole string of random gigs. I worked at a dog kennel for a long time. I worked at a place called Puppies and Reptiles for Parties, where we would bring a menagerie of animals to kids’ birthday parties.”

7. Dean loves spending time outdoors, and his hobbies reflect that. He enjoys hiking, rock climbing, soccer, football, lacrosse, yoga, and scuba diving.
