After winning fans over when he played Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital, Nicholas Chavez would go on to win the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama Series in 2022. Naturally, it was only a matter of time before he was scooped up by another production, much to the simultaneous fear and delight of fans. Now, he’s got a new project premiering soon and was excited to share it with his followers.

Rising Star

After winning the hearts of fans as Spencer, whose romance with Trina (Tabyana Ali) became an astronomical hit, Chavez was clearly destined for more, especially considering GH was his first acting gig. On August 20, he enthusiastically posted a much-anticipated trailer on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “MONSTERS: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. September 19. Only on Netflix. I’m over the moon. Sept 19th here we come!!”

The video opens on a dark night when a car pulls into the driveway of a palatial estate and fades to two young men walking toward the building. A text overlay states, “On August 20, 1989, Lyle and Erik Menendez murdered their parents.” With an extremely creepy atmosphere, we see the men from the back as they enter the building with shotguns, and the image fades to black as we hear two shots fired. The title, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, appears, and we know we’re in for a frightening treat.

Another Scary Project Coming

The show was created by the duo of Ian Brennan and Ryan Murphy, who also co-created the horror hits, Dahmer, and Scream Queens, among others, so they know their way around dark and disturbing material. While the two surprisingly also created the hit musical series, Glee, Murphy created the long-running American Horror Story, so Monsters is surely going to have an eclectic mix of horror and drama (we doubt there’ll be much in the way of humor, although with Chavez, you never know).

Chavez is also joining another horror series, playing Father Charlie in Grotesquerie, which is also created by Murphy. It’ll be interesting to see how fans react to seeing their beloved GH actor as a priest, but considering his amazing acting skills, we’ll forget about his other characters as soon as he appears on screen.

Monsters debuts on September 19 on Netflix, and we’re looking forward to it! (Take a look at Spencer and Trina’s New York romance tale.)
