General Hospital star Michael Easton shared a clip from the 1992 TV-movie, Shadow of a Stranger, which he starred in with his soapy castmate, Emma Samms.
Several Stars Appeared in This Little Known Film
It’s always fun to get a chance to see our favorite soap stars in horror films. GH’s Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio) was in the 1972 Pete Walker film, The Flesh and Blood Show, while co-star Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer) appeared in Blood Sabbath, also from 1972. So it should come as no shock to General Hospital fans that Michael Easton (Hamilton Finn) – who got his start playing the vampire lord Caleb Morley on Port Charles – appeared in the TV-Movie thriller, Shadow of a Stranger in 1992, alongside GH co-star Emma Samms (Holly Sutton), The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries and Baywatch star Parker Stevenson, and Twin Peaks alum, Joan Chen.
The film centers around Sarah (Samms) and Ted (Stevenson) who, while at their beach house, spot a boat in trouble. They rush to the rescue and the only two aboard are Shawn (Easton) and Vanessa (Chen). Things start to get chilling when Ted and Sarah find out that the boat was owned by an elderly couple who are nowhere to be found.
Spoiler Alert!
Easton shared a clip from the film on Instagram on April 18 and wrote, “Throwback Thursday. Shadow of a Stranger (1992 NBC). I played a lot of bad boys when I first started out. Most of them ended up getting killed. This time it was at the hands of the lovely @emma.samms. I had no idea what I was doing, and Emma couldn’t have been kinder to me, and I am grateful to her to this day.”
Yes, Easton gave away the film’s twist, but that’s irrelevant because it’s not available on any streaming platform or even for sale in DVD or VHS formats. The movie was directed by Richard Friedman, who has quite a few horror/thrillers under his belt, including Death Mask from 1984, the head-scratchingly bizarre Doom Asylum from 1987, and the odd Billy Joel music video or two.
It has a few extremely favorable reviews on Letterboxd and IMDb, with a viewer on the latter site considering it, “An incredibly impressive piece of work. It’s very well scripted and acted and has a very compelling narrative…Shadows of a Stranger looks and sounds like a movie that cost millions!” The viewer also stated that the filmmakers should be proud of it, so we’re a little disheartened that there’s no copy available.
But we know that Easton and Samms always give 100% to any role they’re in, no matter the budget, so it sounds like a thrilling time!
