General Hospital star Maurice Benard broke his silence about Kelly Monaco’s departure. He sees nothing but good things for his co-star.
Surprising News
GH fans are still in shock over the news that Kelly Monaco is leaving the ABC soap. Earlier this month, it was revealed that she will be exiting her role as Sam McCall in September 2024. She has played the iconic character since 2003. Her final airdate is unknown at the time.
The news exploded on social media at the time. Reports claimed she was being killed off; however, she has recently been temporarily replaced by Lindsay Hartley. Still, many questions surround Monaco’s departure and what led to this hasty decision.
GH has been through many changes this year alone. Chris Van Etten replaced head writer Patrick Mulcahey. Several cast members, including Steve Burton (Jason) and Jonathan Jackson (Lucky), have returned. In June, Michael Easton announced his exit from the series.
Benard Speaks
Benard, who portrays Sonny on the soap, recently spoke out about Monaco’s leaving. He feels hopeful about her future. Recently, he shared his thoughts on her sudden departure on X, formerly Twitter.
“Every time someone leaves a show, I always believe something great is going to come,” Benard posted. “It’s a blessing in disguise. Kelly is really talented. And she will succeed.”
Monaco should succeed at her next project. In addition to her character as bad girl Sam, she was the first star to win the Mirrorball Trophy with professional dancer Alec Mazo in the inaugural season of Dancing with the Stars.
Monaco hasn’t shared the next step in her career. The actress took a break from the spotlight after the news broke. She previously broke her social media silence over the weekend to remember her former co-star, Billy Miller, on the first anniversary of his death.
