It’s been 45 years since Kin Shriner first started bringing Scotty Baldwin to life on General Hospital, making him a fan-favorite to this day. When Scotty first arrived on the Port Charles scene, he was a young law student who fell hard for Laura Vining Webber, a rebellious teenager who thought she found the man of her dreams when Scotty came along.
Kin Shriner Transforms Scotty Into Scott
Scotty and Laura (Genie Francis) married way too young, and that marriage was stopped thanks to Luke Spencer (Tony Geary). In 1980, Shriner left GH for the first time to join a new NBC soap called Texas, a spin-off of Another World. Shriner played cowboy Jeb Hampton for about a year and then made a triumphant return to GH in 1981 to catch the bouquet at Luke and Laura’s wedding.
Losing Laura changed Scotty, who often wanted to be called Scott by that time. The character became much more manipulative but still remained in fans’ hearts even during his bad boy stage with love interests like Heather Webber (Robin Mattson).
Scott Becomes A Romantic Lead Again
By the 1990s, Scott softened a bit when he fell for Dominique Stanton (Shell Danielson), and Shriner brought tears to fans’ eyes when Dominique died in Scott’s arms. Kin Shriner also brought out the softer side of Scott as a parent to Serena Baldwin (Carly Schroeder), the child Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) carried for him and Dominique. Scott would also eventually meet adult children he never knew he had, Karen Wexler (Cari Shayne) and Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth).
In 2022, Scott has found love again with Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati), and all Shriner can do is make us smile and laugh as he continues to practice law and love his ‘Schnitzel.’ After 45 years, we can’t wait to see what Kin Shriner and Scott do next.
