Katelyn MacMullen expressed that things could have gone down differently if Nina told her about Drew, but hopes that this secret won’t destroy their relationship.

The whole Drew, Willow, and Nina mess on General Hospital has gotten out of control. Nina’s been holding back on telling Willow that she, too, had been sleeping with Drew for fear of losing her daughter again. But the damage is so far-reaching that no one’s walking away from this bombshell unscathed. Willow’s portrayer, Katelyn MacMullen, had some interesting thoughts about the debacle and its effect on Nina and Willow’s relationship.

It Might Not Be Insurmountable

MacMullen recently talked to Soap Opera Digest and explained that everything has become a whirlwind for Willow. For one, Nina (Cynthia Watros) helped her to lawyer up, anticipating a custody battle with Michael (Chad Duell). Plus, Willow has no idea that her mom and her current lover, Drew (Cameron Mathison), hooked up a few times before she did the horizontal bop with her husband’s uncle. But MacMullen understood why Nina kept quiet about it, stating that she could see things from “Nina’s perspective. I emphasize [sic] with her being like, ‘Do I tell her this information that will absolutely destroy her and could destroy our relationship?’” (Revisit the height of Willow and Nina’s feud.)

The fact that it took a very long time for Willow to thaw out and accept Nina as her mother wasn’t lost on MacMullen. She’s hoping the eventual revelation of Nina and Drew’s physical relationship won’t be impossible for mother and daughter to get past. “I think it would be really cool to see them somehow make their way through this,” she stated.

What If…?

MacMullen also explained the ‘What ifs…?’ that could have changed the outcome of events. For example, if Nina had confided in Willow about her dalliance with Drew before Willow acted on any impulses, “Maybe it would have stopped sooner, and maybe it wouldn’t have gotten so out of hand and certain events wouldn’t have taken place,” she speculated.

The actress also noted that Willow must take responsibility for her part in the whole mess. And understand that Nina wasn’t being nefarious by withholding the information. If that happens, the fallout from the eventual revelation may not be as bad as it could have been. “I am interested to see how Willow responds, certainly.” (Get Mathison’s take on Drew and Willow’s illicit affair.)
